Weather Cancellation - Feb 27, 2010

Friday, February 26, 2010

FORCE will not be meeting this week for the February 27th service.

Why are we closed? Well, all the schools are closed, many flights are being cancelled, parking bans are in effect and the snow is still coming down. Today the weather is the only news being reported. Not only is the snow falling non-stop; it is blowing and causing huge snow drifts.

The Power of the Cross - Lent Series

Thursday, February 25, 2010

The Lenten Season is here and we found these really cool magnets that help us learn about Jesus and celebrate the time until Easter.  This year Easter is April 4. 2010.

Christian Tools of Affirmation (CTA) has produced a wonderful tool that allows us to discuss one attribute of Jesus per week. Each piece will be given to the kids/youth to take home weekly as we discuss the topic. When all the pieces are put together they will form a beautiful cross with a heart in the center.

We look forward to seeing you for our Power of the Cross series.

Quote of the Day

Tuesday, February 23, 2010

Don't say you don't have enough time. You have exactly the same number of hours per day that were given to Helen Keller, Pasteur, Michaelangelo, Mother Teresea, Leonardo da Vinci, Thomas Jefferson, and Albert Einstein.
by H. Jackson Brown, Jr.

Each day that we have is a gift from God. Make each moment matter.

WE Pray: The Apostle's Creed

Tuesday, February 16, 2010

The Apostle's Creed, Ecumenical Version

I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit
born of the virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to the dead.*
On the third day he rose again,
he ascended into heaven,
is seated at the right hand of the Father.
and will come again to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic** Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.

*or "He descended to hell."
**"universal"

This translation can be found in current United Methodist Hymnal.

The Apostles' Creed: Video

YouTube is a mixture of some good and some bad videos. A really hard part of living in this world is deciding which is which.  But if you keep God with you and the Holy Spirit in your heart is becomes much easier to decide.

As I was looking for material to use for this website and in class I stumbled on this really cool video prepared by a group of youth. It is a spoken word version of the one of the oldest statement's of Christian faith. Hope you enjoy.

Apostles' Creed
The affirmation of faith most widely used by United Methodists. The Apostles' Creed derives its name from its use in the Christian church from as early as A.D. 150 and the early belief that it was used by the apostles. Beginning in the third century, this creed was used at baptisms by the Roman Catholic Church. Through the years it has been used widely by both Roman Catholics and Protestants as the formative statement of the faith into which Christians are baptized.
